Terminology from the game franchise is used as is necessary within the software itself. This constitutes the intellectual property of Nintendo Co., Ltd., Creatures, Inc and GAME FREAK, Inc as is protected by various copyrights and trademarks. I believe that the use of this intellectual property for a fan reference is covered by fair use and that the software is significantly impaired without aforementioned properties included.
